Other Bookish Stuff

Spotlight Saturday #2

Hi Everyone!

Today I’m here to do another Spotlight Saturday post since it’s been a few weeks since I’ve done my last one and I have quite a lot I want to talk about! In case you didn’t know, Spotlight Saturday is a weekly feature created by Josie The Bookworm in which each Saturday we talk about our weekly favourites over a range of categories. I have lots to talk about today so let’s start!

Spotlight Book

I’m going to give this one to Their Fractured Light by Aime Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. This is the final book in the Starbound trilogy and wrapped the trilogy so perfectly and beautifully. It was everything I could have hoped for and more and I can’t wait to read any other books written by these authors. Also let’s just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful EVERY SINGLE BOOK in this trilogy is!!

Spotlight Movie

I watched The Fifth Wave at the cinema last week and actually enjoyed it! I think plot wise, it stuck to the book pretty well and included most of the intense scenes I remembered from the movie. What I didn’t like so much was how they basically removed the personalities of the characters from the books and left them as typical boring teenagers. I do understand that it would have been difficult to include a lot of Cassie’s hilarious inner monologue in the movie format but there just didn’t seem like any attempt at all to make Cassie as fun as she was in the book. This movie has also done pretty horrendously critically (the Rotten Tomatoes score is less than 20%) so I have little faith that there will be a second movie.

Spotlight TV Show

What else could I give this spot to then Shadowhunters. Only the first three episodes have come out and I’ve had such a pretty fun time watching them and I have done a discussion post for both episode 1 , episode 2 and episode 3. So far I would rank the second episode as the best, then the first and then the third. I’m excited to keep watching the show and see what happens!

Spotlight Music

Every since the Paper Towns soundtrack came out I’ve started getting into the band HAIM. HAIM is a pop rock band of three girls who make such catchy songs I’ve been listening to on repeat for about a month now. So far I’ve only listened to their Days Are Gone album and my favourites from there are of course Falling (which was also on the Paper Towns soundtrack) and The Wire. I can’t wait to listen to the rest of their songs!

Spotlight App

I have been really loving the Snapchat app this month. I’m sure you guys all know, but Snapchat is a social media app in which you can post and share pictures for your friends to see but for only for a few seconds. I find it a lot more fun and interesting to talk with friends with and to share with them what’s been going on. If you would like to follow me for updates on what I’m doing in my mundane life or what I’m currently reading you can add me @gabbye2126! 😉

Spotlight Website

This week’s spotlight website is the website Hypable . Hypable is my go-to website for all nerdy and fandom related news whether it be books, movies, TV shows or technology. They are a super reliable site that can help me keep on top of all the news since they update daily. Honestly I don’t know what I would do without Hypable. Actually I’d probably be living under a rock with no idea what was happening in the fandom world…

Spotlight YouTube Channel

This is a new category I’ve added since I’m such a big YouTube fan and probably spend at least an hour each day on YouTube. Recently I’ve really been getting into Lilly Singh’s videos who you probably know better as Superwoman. All of her videos are super funny and relatable and overall she’s just a positive and fun person to watch. I always get really excited to see her videos in my feed and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to find her videos!

Spotlight YouTube Video

This is another new YouTube related category I added because what can I say… I’m obsessed. 😛 Also recently, I’ve been starting to really appreciate short films and sketches on YouTube. You may have seen from some of my previous posts that I have a growing interest in film making and watching these videos on YouTube have been really inspiring me. This week one of the favourites I have watched is a short film by Jack & Dean called Ghost Fighting Corporation . The story was really funny and entertaining and Jack and Dean are such fun people to watch acting together. I would highly recommend it if you have some spare time during your day and are looking for a laugh.

So there we have it! Spotlight Saturday for this week! Let me know what your favourites of the week have been. Thanks so much for checking out my blog and I’ll chat with you all later!
