Top 5 Wednesday: Most Annoying Characters

Hey!

I want to keep this short today since I’ve been quite busy but I just quickly wanted to mention that this topic is actually last weeks topic and I accidently got mixed up and posted this weeks topic last week. Feel free to check out that post as well if you have time. 🙂 But anyway lets continue with this topic anyway. 😀

5. Clary Fray from City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Some of you may be surprised to see Clary on this list since I love the series but Clary was pretty much my main pet peeve of the series. She did improve over the series though hence why she’s only number 5 on this list. The main thing I hated about Clary was how inconsiderate she was. She constantly acted rashly and never really thought about her actions. Maybe the first two times it was understandable since everyone makes mistakes and Clary was pretty young and naive at the start of the series. But as it kept constantly happening over pretty much 5 books it got old very quickly. Although I do understand this was just part of Clary’s character, I would have liked the whole series a lot better without her being so annoying.

4. Alice from Side Effects May Vary by Julie Murphy

To put it simply Alice was just really annoying… I read this book a while ago so I can’t remember a lot about it but unfortunately the one thing I remember very clearly was my hatred for Alice. I know this is unfair considering Alice was going through a really tough situation but I just think the way she reacted was a bit harsh. I especially didn’t like the way she acted toward her close friend Harvey who point of view is also told in the story. Harvey was really kind and understanding and the way Alice treated him made me feel really sorry for him. Overall my thoughts on Alice really brought this book down for me. I may try re-reading this book at some point though and maybe my views will change.

3. Maxon Schreave from The Selection series by Kiera Cass

For pretty much most of the Selection series I loved Maxon. He was so sweet and caring and you couldn’t really help by swoon over him. It wasn’t really until the third book, within the last 50-100 pages that my annoyance for Maxon started to flair. I can’t really talk much about it since I don’t want to spoil anyone but basically Maxon started to make big rash decisions without a second thought. If you’ve read The One you may know what I mean. This decision completely ruined part of the book for me which is why I had to add Maxon to this list. Fortunately though he does redeem himself slightly which is a relief since he was (emphasis on the WAS) a great character. I’m really excited to see how he turned out in the Heir though which I will definitely be reading!

2. Isabel Conklin (Belly) from The Summer I Turned Pretty series by Jenny Han

Everyone seems to love Belly so I feel a little bit guilty for saying this. The main reason why I disliked Belly was because of her childishness. I suppose I can’t really judge since I’m not the most mature person but I still couldn’t help disliking Belly for it. Throughout the series there are flashbacks to Belly with Conrad and Jeremiah when they are young. In these flashbacks Belly was always very immature and argued annoyingly with the boys. When it went back to the present she was exactly the same. I also hated the stupid love triangle in this book which did have its moments but most of the time left me wanting to pull my hair out. Basically Belly was super frustrating and not at all relatable like everyone else seems to be.

1. America Singer from The Selection series by Kiera Cass

We all saw this one coming right? I’m sure almost everyone who’s read this book has America on their list. I don’t think I have ever wanted to knock some sense into a character any more than I did with America. God, this girl was so frustratingly annoying it was extremely painful to read about her. Again the whole love triangle in this book could have been gone in an instant if America just made a stupid freaking decision. The fact that this series could have gone for only one book if America had just made her choice is also very annoying. There was basically just lots of annoying and stupid things America did that made me hate her more and more. The character development was also non-existent considering the fact that she never improved over the series and only got worse. Frankly, I’m scared her dub decision making process kept with her throughout her life and that she’ll still be just as annoying in the Heir. Well fingers crossed she’s improved but I’d still be more than happy if I never had to read about her again.

Thanks for reading and I’m sorry for posting this topic a week late. 😛 Comment below which characters made you want to pull your hair out.
