Here we are on the last Wednesday of 2015 (crazy! I know :P) which of course means top 5 Wednesday! Today’s topic is, you guessed it, top 5 books of 2015! Today has been an absolutely crazy year of reading. I’ve read so many amazing books so this list was quite hard to compile but I was finally able to do it! Without further ado here are my top 5 books of the year!
5. The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski
This is one of the first books I read in 2015 and haven’t been able to get it out of my head since. One of the main reasons why I love this book is because of the amazing main character Kestrel. Unlike a lot of lead female characters in fantasy books she’s not the best at fighting. Instead she’s super intelligent and specialises in war strategy making her really unique and interesting. I also love the romance and the world building in the book. I would highly recommend everyone go check out this series ASAP. Also if you haven’t heard the final book in the series is coming out in March 2016 and they are going to publish it with the original pretty cover so now is the perfect time to catch up on the series! In case you want to learn more about this book feel free to check out my review!
4. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas
This book took the series to a whole new level in my opinion. I really, really enjoyed the first three books in the series but it wasn’t really until this one that I got borderline obsessed. I love everything about this book from the characters to plot to world-building to romance. EVERYTHING! Sarah J Maas is an absolute queen at creating fantasy worlds that completely suck you in. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in the series which I really hope has a title and cover reveal soon because I must know now!!!!!
3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling
In case you were unaware, this year I made it my goal to read the entire Harry Potter series. This is probably the best decision I have ever made hence why this book is on my list. This series completely blew me away. Harry Potter had this amazing power to unlock this inner child within me that got completely ecstatic about all the magic and adventure. My favourite in the series though was probably the last one, even though it was a really close call. The last one just wrapped up the series so perfectly and everything was tied together super well with no obvious plot holes which is very difficult to achieve. If you still haven’t picked up the series, please do! There is absolutely no chance you’ll ever regret it!
2. Winter by Marissa Meyer
Wow, this book… I’ve talked about it in pretty much ever blog post since I read it so chances are you’ve already heard me raving about this book. If not I’m totally okay with raving about it a little more! Winter was the epic conclusion to the equally epic Lunar Chronicles series which is a sci-fi, fantasy, fairy-tale retelling series which includes cyborgs, androids, romance, politics, hackers, people with powers and basically anything you could ever want in a series. The characters are absolutely amazing and very relatable. The romance is also incredible and you are 100% sure to ship each and every couple. This book was the best conclusion this series could ever have and I am going to miss this series so much now that the last book has come out. 😦 To learn more about what I thought you can also check out my review. But anyway this book was incredible and you are definitely missing out if you haven’t read this series yet!
1. We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach
My favourite book of 2015! This book completely surprised me in the best way. The characters were also so varied and complex and written so well. The book was set from each of the four characters point of view which I enjoyed equally which is quite rare for me. I loved the themes and messages of the novel which touched me in a way I never expected. The book was definitely thought-provoking and the writing style was absolutely beautiful. I cannot wait to read anything else by Tommy Wallach! If you want to learn more about what I thought you can check out my review!
I just need to give a quick shout out to a few books that I also really loved this year but didn’t quite make it to my top five. These include Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, Ready Player One by Earnest Cline and Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan. All of these are amazing books that didn’t quite make it to my top 5 but still deserve recognition for being so awesome!
So there we have it my top 5 books of 2015! Okay I just realised that the majority of them are fantasy books which is absolutely crazy since if you had asked me a year ago what my least favourite genre is I would probably have said fantasy. Wow, I guess a lot can change in a year! 🙂 Please leave a comment on what your favourite books of 2015 were and what your thoughts are on any of mine!
Seeing as this is probably going to be my last post for the year I just want to say thanks for such an incredible year! Each and every one of you has made this year absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to talk with you again in 2016! So until then, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
