Movie Recommendations #1

Hey!

I’m not sure if you remember from a few posts ago, but I talked about wanting to do more movie related posts, so here I am fulfilling that promise! Lately, as you may know I’ve been quite busy with school so haven’t been able to read much but what I have been able to do is watch movies, and lots of them! Because of this I decided that every so often I would come to you guys with movie recommendations from movies I’ve watched over the past few weeks or month. I’ve tried to pick a range of movies that would suit that tastes of as many of you as possible. So with that, let’s get into these recommendations.

Now You See Me (2013)

This is a book I hadn’t heard too much about previous to watching and was completely blown away when I watched it. It follows four magicians/illusionists that are mysteriously teamed up to perform magic shows. In these shows crimes are committed such as robbing backs and giving money to the audience. The movie is mainly shown from the point of view of a federal agent trying to track down the illusionists and come to the conclusion of how they are getting area with these crimes. This may not sound that great, but trust me this movie was amazing. It also has an amazing cast including Jessie Einsberg, Isla Fisher, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman. Now try telling me that this movie wouldn’t be awesome. While watching this movie your taken on a crazy roller coaster ride of trying to figure out how these illusionists are performing these tricks and who is behind all of this. In case you need any more persuasion the second movie is coming out next year ‘Now You See Me: The Second Act’ with Daniel Radcliff and Lizzy Caplan (Janice, from Mean Girls) joining the cast, so now’s the perfect time to catch up on this movie before watching the sequel!

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015)

I don’t want to talk too much about this one since I do have a full review on it which you can read here. Bust just for a quick rundown, this movie was based on the book ‘Me and Earth and the Dying Girl’ by Jesse Andrews. It follows this boy named Greg in his senior year of high school how is forced to befriend a girl in his class named Rachael who has Leukaemia. While this may sound like a pretty depressing movie, it’s not in fact it’s hilarious! Not only did this movie have an amazing storyline the cinematography was so interesting and unique. And in case you were wondering, yes it is a totally amazing book to movie adaptation and probably one of my favourites ever! This may have to do with the fact that the script was written by the author of the book, who did a damn good job of adapting the book into a film. This is definitely a must-watch movie which I believe is coming out soon on DVD and for digital download so you don’t have to wait long to watch it if you missed it in cinemas!

Star Wars: Episode VI- Return of the Jedi (1983)

Ahh good old Star Wars… Now I’m sure most of you have already watched these movies but they’re just too good to not recommend again. Over the year I’ve been slowly working my way through the franchise in anticipation for the next movie coming out in December and have now, this month, just watched the last one Return of the Jedi. So while I used that movie as the recommendation I still do of course recommend the other movies. In case you don’t know what Star Wars is (Have you even been living on the planet?) it’s a series on films that follows the adventures and battles of characters set in a galaxy ‘far far away’. Or at least that’s what Wikipedia told me, Star Wars is a bit too complicated to summarise, it’s best just to watch the movies. Personally I would recommend watching the older movies first, Episodes 4-6 starting with A New Hope and then go back and watch the later movies which are the prequels. I watched them the opposite way around and was hella confused about what the heck was going on in especially Episodes 2 and 3. But anyway, it’s up to you what way you want to watch them. But basically the movies are filled with action and battles, interesting characters and just the right amount of comedic moments to make the movies entertaining yet not a complete joke. Need any more persuading? The new movie ‘The Force Awakens’ comes out in December so now really is the best time to join in on the epic franchise!

Ferris Buller’s Day Off (1986)

Earlier this month I read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. In the book there are so many 80’s pop culture references that it really made me want to go back and watch some more 80’s films. SO when I saw Ferris Buller was on TV last weekend I eagerly sat down to watch it. I’d watched parts of the movie before but never sat through the whole thing so I really had no idea of what the full plot line was. Basically, it’s about a boy named Ferris Buller who always likes to take days off school, the movie follows him on what he thinks will be his last day off before graduation where he goes on a number of epic and hilarious adventures with his friend Cameron and girlfriend Sloane. Mostly this movie was just hilarious and super entertaining to watch. I would definitely classify it as a classic teen movie that all teens should watch. It has also got me really eager to watch all of John Hughes other films!

About Time (2013)

About Time Movie PosterThis is a super adorable rom-com that does not get enough credit as it deserves. It has an amazing cast including Rachael McAdams, Domhnall Gleeson (remember Bill Weasley, from Deathly Hallows?), Margot Robbie and Bill Nightly. It is also by the makers of Love Actually and Notting Hill in case you liked any of those movies. The story follows Tim who is told by his father that all the men in their family have the power to time travel, With his new found power he sets out to find a girlfriend. The movie just follows his life and how he discovers that his power can’t always be used to sort out other people’s problems. Long story short, it was such a cute and romantic movie that is sure to improve your mood whenever you’re feeling down!

So that’s all the recommendations I have for today! Let me know if you liked any of these movies or if you plan on checking them out! Also leave in the comments if you would like me to do anymore movie related posts or any time in specific you would like to see! Thank you for stopping by and I’ll catch you all later. 🙂
